I have a Bristol 40 with the Grunert AR50 refrigeration unit and I have almost no information on this model except for a manual I found online. Does anyone know where you can find parts and information on recharging this unit? The previous owners of this boat were the low/no maintenance types and I suspect that I have some work ahead of me to make sure the compressor stays running. All I know about the unit right now is that the previous owners told me that it was pumping water and that it needed to be recharged. Any information would be helpful! Thank you.

Steve,

Here's a link to one company that deals with Grunnert. I haven't used them, so I can't say much about them or their service. http://www.marinespecialists.com/marineairsystems/grunert/body.html

Second Star has a Grunert refrigeration system and I am very happy with it. Once the holding plates chill down, the box stays cold (below 38*) for 10 to 20 hours. Mine is water cooled so it is important to watch the raw water filter, it does get clogged up and needs to be cleaned a couple times a season.

If you are at a dock and have the refrigerator running when you're not on board, let your neighbors know you have a water cooled refrigerator and that it is not your bilge pump that is running. It will save a few panicky phone calls about your boat sinking. :)

Are you at HHYC?

Thank you for your advice! I will look into that link for sure. We are not at HHYC but in the mooring field in the harbor.
