I have an 85' Hunter 23 and on the transom between the fiberglass and the stainless steel grudgeons/pindles I have a piece of teak so that it places the rudder head an inch aft. All the Hunter 23's that I have seen locally do not have this piece of teak. The wood is rotting and I am wondering what purpose it serves? Can I just leave out this teak spacer? Do you have teak Spacers? Thanks Tony

Hmmmmmmmm

I have an 87 H23 with no spacer, but a fleet mate of mine has an 86 with the wooden spacers. However.........they were put there by the previous owner who was a serious racer for "who knows what reason". The bottom pintle broke off my buddy's boat while he was sailing and his rudder floated up and bent the top pintle. I think he's in the process of removing the wooden spacer.

Mine has spacers....

I have an 84 H23 (first year made) and I have the spacers. I encapsulated mine with 5200..... I assumed they were there to ensure clearance, but maybe not....

No Spacer

I have a 1987 H-23 without spacers. I have raced enough to know that rudder and centerboard rake (forward or backward leaning) affects pointing ability. Mabey your boats have been modified to improve their windward performance. Is there another H-23 in your area that you could race against to check? Keith Smoot

What the hey

My 88 H23 has no spacer. Maybe it was discontinued on later model years? Peter H23 "Raven"
