I recently hauled my 78 hunter 30 out for the first time, mainly to have it checked out by the insurance company after some minor hull damage due to isabel. the bottom paint is completely worn out so I am going to paint the hull. even after power washing there is a lot of stuff between the skeg and the rudder. what is the best way to get that area clean. and then to treat it. thank you

The unreachable space

That space, the concave space on the rear of the skeg and in front of the rudder, is one of the most difficult to reach, clean and paint. I would suggest a very thorough cleaning with a pressure washer, followed by lots of scrapping with any tool thin enough to get inside and strong enough to do some good. Maybe followed by another pressure wash. If/when you get it cleaned out, you can paint it with bottom paint but only if you find a very thin brush or can devise some way to spray it inside. Good Luck!
