So the ground wire on my new to me 235 has gone missing. Anyone know what gauge to use? Its the wire that runs to the keel bolt.

Thanks!

I think that one is to let the lighting out. It should be big I think on my boat it is a braided thing maybe #6AWG? Maine Sail could probably tell you exactly what you need to be compliant with ABYC.

For a main lightning conductor, the now retired FSU lightning 'guru' recommends a minimum 4 AWG conductor rated for 600v; strongly recommends 2 AWG.
The bonding connections at a minimum 6 AWG.

See section 4.4: http://www.marinelightning.com/Information/GroundingGuide.htm

Youll note in the details found in the above URL, his preferences are for release of a strike though what he calls 'side arc' dissipator electrodes installed along the waterline. His recommendations are usually 'ahead of the curve' ... and are 'controversial'.

Your search-fu is very strong Jackdaw. I even looked at the 235 forum site and didn't find anything. Thanks for that link!

I will figure something out to attach to the keel bolt.
