Hardwood charcoal - where to get it
We have been able to find it in quite a few places. Cheapest we have seen at about $7 for 20-lb bag is Western Beef. Have also seen it at Home Depot and even Pathmark, but not reliably. There is a hardware store in Port Washington that always has it for about $16 a bag. Have even seen it in Manhattan at a Korean grocery. You might have to look a little but it does exist and there is just no comparison to briquettes. Twice the heat output with no ash.We also burn a mixture of hardwood charcoal and anthracite coal in our solid-fuel cabin heater. But that's another story.
