These rub rails on my 2000 340 are dirty on a regular basis I have used "Black Streak remover" with some success but interested if anyone found a "best practice" for cleaning and maintaining the grey rails used in 2000 era by Hunter Tony

rubbing/polishing compound

I have used rubbing and or polishing compound with good results. Using the compound and a sponge worked well for me. then put on some 3m vinal/plastic protector. It has become a yearly job that I usally do in the spring and find it last all season. Might be tough the first time if never done. I have used a "green scrubbie" on the real bad spots. Good Luck !

Mary Kate Spray Away

Spray on and wipe off. Fantastic results. Apply wax afterwards to retard getting dirty again. I clean mine once a month. I also use it to clean the plastic vent cowls and the whire lifelines as well as our PVC inflateable. Available at West Marine.

Greased lightening

I have a 340 and the rubrail was a constant pain, because it was always dirty and nothing seemed to do a good job except products that were highly costic. I used some nail polish remover which took the dirt off, if also slightly melted a thin layer of the rubrail. But eventually, I got a product called Greased Lightening, which is a spray on, the dirt came right off with little or no scrubbing and it doesn't harm the rub rail. One problem with cleaning that rubber piece is that it's easy to also remove the wax on the boat. You can buy greased lightnening at an auto parts store. I bought it at AutoZone. ajp

Greased lightening addendum

After cleaning the rubrail with Greased Lightening, I use Armorall to seal it and keep it cleaner longer. ajp
