Hoping to keep my sailboat in Grenada for the 2014 hurricane season. Any suggestions/advice on marinas,etc. I will be living on her and want to keep her in the water.

just a friendly reminder.... if ya havent noticed already, you only need to post in one specific forum... posting in a couple different ones only leads to duplicates showing in the "all discussions", which is rude, un-necessary, and against the forum rules...
if you hover over the "forums" tab, at the top left of the screen, you will see "all discussions"....click on it!.. this is where most of us read from as it shows all the postings from all the brand specific forums so we can see everything that may interest us.
it makes it so much better for all....

You might want to look into what happened during hurricane Ivan in Grenada.... Grenada is not out of the hurricane zone.. Beautiful island though... I believe Capta has spent a lot of time in Grenada so perhaps he will stop by. I have been there but not for long and did not explore all the possible boating options..
Grenada is a great place to spend the hurricane season. The locals are wonderfully friendly and gracious. With today's internet weather, there's little chance of the yachts falling prey to another Ivan, and Trinidad is only 80 miles away, anyway.
Most of us spend the summer on the hook. There are half a dozen nice anchorages on the south end with the local shoreside bars and restaurants vying for the yacht's custom. There are 1/2 price pizza nites, great music nights, bingo nights and 2 for one pizza nights, just to name a few.
Almost everything is available, at the hardware stores, etc, Budget marine and one supermarket even caters to the Americans at the Medical University with many common US items.
The island is beautiful and transportation is easy, frequent and cheap. Clearing in and out is easy and immigration charges around EC$75.00 a month. No other fees for anchored yachts.
Come on down.

Capt Bob, Grenada is a good choice for the hurricane season. I will be chartering there in August 2014 from Horizon. Even though the island was hit by Ivan on 2004, I consider Grenada to be below the hurricane belt. The last hurricane to hit the island since Ivan was in the 1950s so you are safe for the next 50+ years. ): As Capta said there are many anchorages in the south of the island. If you are looking for marinas, there are Clarkes Court Bay Marina, Le Phare Bleu, Port Louis (sunsail base), Grenada Marine (good place to get work done) just to name a few.

Thanks for the encouraging words Capta. Can you recommend a Marina or two. Im hoping to sail down to Grenada (after my guests leave on June 29th) at the end of the season from the BVI's. I'll only have a day or two in Grenada before I have to fly back to the States in time to start work for three months. I hope to fly back to Grenada in late September, early Oct. and remain on my boat indefinitely.
So I'm thinking I need a safe marina to dock her while I'm gone. Any suggestions/advice?

thanks salty, i'll look into each of those marina's in grenada, but if anyone can recommend one over another, i'd appreciate it. thanks again. you guys are great!
Those that leave their boats over the summer generally haul and store them. If you want to leave her in the water, Prickly Bay Marina may be the cheapest, there's Whisper Cove and Clark's Court Bay Marina as mentioned above and probably the most secure and expensive, Port Louis in St. George's. All have internet sites w/rates and contact info.
