Gremlins again

Hi all,

Didn’t take long for the Gremlins to show up, or maybe it’s the 38 degree mornings. We had fixed (worked when we left) the generator and now when we want heat it won’t start. Changed oil in the main engine and for the first time ever got six quarts out even when the dipstick said a little below full. No water or thinning, just could never get that low in the sump to suck it out. Found a broken hose clamp from the engine exhaust hose, of course we’re no longer close to any marine supplies. Other electrical systems working better than ever, why? Other stuff has been oddly happening but not at our request.

We’ll try to outrun the cold and little buggers next week after I’ve had a shot of fixing things.

Keep after it, Tom! You'll capture all the little buggers soon.

I finally got sick and tired of draining some of the main engine oil through the dip stick and bought one of these.
Finally, a no fuss, no muss oil drain system!

Better than having my wife do it? ;)

Just checked, no drain plug in the pan.

I may have gotten a few off the boat and into the courtesy golf cart, it would only run in reverse at full throttle. What a ride.

What engine do you have? It took me years of not too hard looking to find the drain plug on the 4.236.

Made progress on the genset today, we were on the phone with our mechanic and got it running. I made sure we had plenty of raw water flowing then let it run to charge batteries. Less than 10 minutes and it stopped, no overheating or smells, just stopped and wouldn’t start. Used my hand and the raw water pump was cold, engine warm, and HX almost hot. Back to the relays inside the controller, Ive already replaced one of three.:banghead:

I had a similar problem with my generator. I fought it for years until someone suggested changing out the off engine fuel pump for a larger model. Bingo! Never a problem since. The original pump just didn't have enough pressure.
For what it's worth....

I’m leaning towards another genset, big bucks but someone might want the Perkins 108 that runs fine.
