Greetings! Over the past ten or more years, the practice of carrying a dinghy on davits has become increasingly more popular amongst members of the sailing fraternity. Their use while cruising allow a dinghy to be kept ready for launching, usually with the outboard motor installed. This in turn has added a new dimension to the enjoyment of the cruising sailor. For most however, a davit installation is likely to be something they may do only once in their cruising lifetime. The purpose of this forum therefore, is to allow an opportunity for anyone who would consider davits, to have some of their quesions answered, and perhaps to clear up some misconceptions at the same time.
