HI all, I've owned my 1972 Oday 23' pop-top since 2003 and this is the second full boating season, which I've had the boat docked in the water at the marina. Being a Navy veteran, I've weathered major storms on all our oceans, however I must commend and openly say how satisfied I was with the Oday 23 over the weekend. I sailed up to Little Sturgeon Bay in Door County here in Wisconsin. A GREAT day of sailing. Saturday, we left the small protected cove to sail SW to head home. We knew bad weather was coming in during the afternoon, but had to get home. My wife (the Admiral) and I were making great speed. Wind and waves astern, we made great speed. Low on fuel in the 6.5 gal tank for my 9.9, we were gonna be close. Coast Guard was hailed and they came out for a fuel transfer to me just north of Long Tail Pointe. The squal line hit us during the fuel transfer. This intense storm was moving from NW to SE. Tornado watch/severe storm warning. Gusts up to 40-50 knots, driving rain, hail, lightning and waves started reaching 5' from astern and my starboard quarter. Visibility got down to 30 yards ahead at times, Coast Guard pulled ahead to lead my way back in thru the shipping channel. With the Admiral down below and myself at the tiller, that Oday 23 held her ground great! She handled herself extremely well. I just wanted to say that after saturday's bad storm, I'm more confident than ever, that the Oday 23 can handle anything. For a 23 footer, she is awesome!
