I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
It is really cool to look at pics of cruising Catalina 30s. They are cool because you can see modifications owners have made for cruising.

Last year was the hull, mast and standing rigging. This year I'm working on the teak and running rigging. Last month I put the Garhauer two level deck organizers on so I can run four lines on each side, back to the cockpit. The photos of the racers helped me (somewhat) see how to configure our C-30. One thing I learned is how to re-route the mainsheet and reduce one block in the process. Ours was running from the "triple blocks" that are mid-boom above the traveler and going horizontal along the boom to a block at the gooseneck and then down to the mast base. The mainsheet would drag across the cam block on our soft vang and hang up a bit, at times. Now it goes from the triples, diagonally straight down to the mast base and runs parallel to the vang, and now much more freely. Probably obvious to anyone with experience, but to me (and the P.O.) it wasn't. I think it will be worthwhile improvement. My other goal this year will be trying to find a used cruising spinnaker and trying to rig that up.

I want to rig ours with a spinnaker as well. It can get costly with the cost of the sail, spinnaker pole, rigging and dedicated spinnaker winches, etc. That's why I've been holding out for an asymetrical spin. No pole or after guy to rig, most of them can be secured to the base of a furled jib, and just use the main headsail winches. A lot easier to rig, set, run & douse.
For the time being, I'm looking for a pole to haul out the jib so I can run wing & wing without the genoa flogging. Those pics were interesting. Old school C 30s still using the aft main traveller & tiller arrangement. Although the second boat looks like they have a mid boom traveller mounted, but are not using it. It also has unusual wooden coming- toe kick stripping around the perimeter of the boat. Never seen an older C 30 with that mod. before. Gues every Catalina is a lil' different.

i don't know where these guys are sailing, but we'd die without our dodger and bimini on long island sound. by far the best money we spent.

I totally concur with that! No wonder that website posting address is "Smug-mug"
I'd be pretty smug too if I were sailing with a crew of a hlalf dozen all females for "rail- meat." lol. I also agree that I wouldn't be caught sailing without our bimini in the summer. Even with an awning U can easily get burned. Without one, is basically rolling the dice for skin cancer. I've got lil' ones for crew & I've tried to teach them to stay out of the sun & be smarter than I was growing up.

Cheers, M B. Thanks for the pics. Glad to see yours is coming along.
Give us a call when your near Crown Point. Ps. I usually buy diesel from the local gas station via a 5 gallon Gerry can, cause the marinas are overpriced & I've bought bad fuel from them before that cost me an engine rebuild!
