Of interest to 'snowbirds' traveling south on the ICW-
The Great Bridge locks on the AICW between the Elizabeth River (Norfolk) and the Albemarle Sound (NC) which has been closed for several days due to debris in the operating gearing has re-opened.

The locks are again operating on their normal schedule of every hour between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on demand afterward.

Engineers inspected, cleared debris from and greased the gears, after the much higher than normal tides receded.

Mariners, traveling along the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, can get the latest information from lock operators via marine radio channel 13.

Deja Vu all over again. I spent three days anchored at Great Bridge in 2011, as it had been damaged in Hurricane Irene. They finally swung the gates once southbound and once northbound during dead slack tide, to let all the traffic through. Couldn't go Dismal Swamp because those locks were closed "indefinitely"

Sure was glad to get through. Only openings they did for the next four days!!!
