My Furlex roller furler is sticking. I think the bearings need grease. What type of grease should I use? Is it possible to get it into the bearings without taking the whole unit apart?
Jerry:There were several discussions about this in the last few years. The concensus was to use spray Carb. Cleaners with a snorkle. Spray this into the bearing area and let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with fresh water. You may need to do this a couple of times. You should also check with the mfg. of your unit and see if they recommend any type of lube. Many of these units have plastic type bearings and do not need grease.
Furlex has a lube grease, speciffically for their furler, which the market. It should be available from Furlex dealers. I have some that was on the boat when we bought it (used) a year ago. There are lube holes on both the lower unit and the upper unit. It should be washed out as best you can before applying the grease. You can go to the Furlex web site.Dick
