Rust

The keel is rusting because it wasnt maintained properly. Theres two ways to fix it. Get the keel sandblasted Apply a coat of pettit rust lock immediately. than 2 coats of zinc chromate and a couple of coats of bottom paint. If this is not feasable sand the rusted areas with a heavy duty sander and coarse paper made for this. apply pettit rust lock to the exposed areas put bottom paint over that. As far as the seam goes dig out all the old stuff and apply 5200. Heres a tip: Never leave an iron keel with rust spots exposed to the elements all winter. The time to fix it is in the fall. If you see rust grind it out and apply pettit rust lock Good Luck bob

More tips on G26 keels -

Do it right, and you won't have to do anything except the odd touch-up in the future. The cast iron keel on the G26 must be sealed (encapsulated) in order to prevent rust, plus you must seal the surface as soon as you expose it to air. Go to - grampianownersmarina - website. They have a detailed article on redoing the keel on a G26. Another good source of information is on - delphiforums - grampian sailboats. There is a ton of info in the archives. Good luck!
