Gps turning off

Hello All
New member here. Needing advice. My garmin 5212 cuts off. This occurs while sailing. I have been told to run larger wire direct to batteries. Due to Gps not having enough power. Has anyone had this problem ? Advice please.

had a problem with a garmin 400 series shutting down and not reading signals. after some searching got an answer from garmin tech assist. downloaded an upgrade from the web site onto a chip and booted the upgrade program. easy when it was all and done, and now works great. Go to the garmin web site on cust service /tech assist to get details.

I had the same situation on mine, check the time out (auto shutdown setting) that fixed mine

I agree with Melliott.
My slip-mate had the same problem. He’d power up his GPS and after a minute or so the GPS would power down. His first call resulted in a statement from a tech, “We don’t support that model any longer”. On his second call he got a Tech that told him that he needed to down load the available up-grade. The Tech also sent out an additional chip to down load. There was a deposit on the second chip but once he sent it back the deposit was removed from his card.
Without being anymore long winded, talk to Garmin.
I agree with Melliott.
I personally have a little 76Cx. I’ve called Garmin several times (for which button next questions) and their Tech’s are TOP’s in my book. I find them to be knowledgeable and patient.

I had the problem of gps shutting off. It would generally shut off after sailing, when i cranked the engine. I wired it directly to the batteries, using an inline fuse and never had the problem again.
