I have a Garmin 45 GPS I would like to interface to my Dell Inspiron 1100. The Dell has no serial port, but does have two USB ports and a monitor out. Is ther a data cable out there that will connect my GPS to the USB? Is there data cable that will also have a power pigtail to drive the GPS' power needs as well? Also, any recommendations on NEMA interface options and chart plotter software for the PC is welcome. The vessel has a complete compliment of Raymarine instruments including an ST4000. I have reviewed earlier posts, but believe software is a dynamic animal which is constantly changing. Bob Allen

GPS Serial port to USB

Bob, I recently had to do a connection from my Garmin 12XL to my Gateway Notebook which has 2 USB ports. The Garmin has a serial port connection. You need a 'Serial Port to USB Converter'. I used a Belkin 'USB Serial Adapter' Model F5U109. The cost was about $30. I use it to access Easy GPS Waypoint Manager software which is a free download. Dick Carey S/V Puffin 1990 H-33.5
