Great Lakes GPS
John- I use a Magellan GPS. I don't recall the model number but it is about 5 years old and it is one of the basic ones magellan makes. It is very accurate and has never failed to take me to my destination exactly where I want to go. It has five screens and offers speed, time to go to target, average speed, heading, lat & long., MOB, routes, and many other things which I seldom use. I purchased a 12 volt adapter so I could power it from the boat batteries. It slurps up the alkaline cells at a fair clip. It was purchased at Radio Shack and was a gift from my son. I think he paid about $150 when he bought it. There are other units out there, notably Garmin products which are on a par with Magellan and unit for unit, dollar for dollar are about equal. You can buy from the cheapest to the highest end and all will guide you on basic courses to arrive where you want to go. Take a look in the Boat US and West Marine catalogues for look at how many are out there and the types, prices, etc. Then go to the inernet for the good deals.
