gps proximity

I just bought a wind generator and am trying to decide the best place to put pole mounted rig. Since this boat is a hunter passage 42 it has a duel step exit from the rear to the sugar scoop. The most logical location is just of center of the stern clamped to the push pit rail. The single backstay will not interfere with the swing of the wind mill . My question involves the GPS receiver head which is also mounted on the stern rail. if the ALUMINUM pole is mounted on the deck and clamped to the stern rail it will be about 7 inches from the gps head. will this cause interference with the accuracy of the gps??

No, the aluminum pole in proximity to GPS antenna will not interfere.BUT:Anything that obscures the GPS antenna (shadows it) from the satelite(s) will reduce accuracy.Gord

doubt you will have any problems

A GPS takes a fix from 3 or more satillites. It is hard to believe that a single pole could block more then one at a time, and if so for very long.I am sure it would be fine.

windmill vs gps

Your wind turbine should cause no interferance at all with your gps. It gets its "signal" from almost straight up to 45 degrees down, so should be able to "see" with no trouble.I have a Southwest windpower turbine and have experienced no interferance with any of my other electronics. HTH
