Looking for some trouble shooting guidance.

93 Oceanis 370 with Garmin GPS 498 installed on the Accy Breaker and the factory Autohelm suite is installed on the Electronics breaker.

I just took ownership of the boat two weeks ago. Started noticing that when the Garmin is powered up and I enable the autopilot the Garmin shutsdown. This happens under power and under sail. I can hit the power button on the Garmin but the splash screen will come up for 1 sec then shuts down again. No issues when I disable autopilot.

Any direction is appreciated. Marine electronics are slightly new to me but very familiar with automotive electronics.

Well I suspect an undervoltage condition caused by the peak current draw of the autopilot.

On my boat I have an hydraulic autopilot draws a lot of current and all the lights flicker when it operates.

So check connections add more/bigger batteries.

Thanks. So I went to check connections and found the the 12v supply for the Garmin is connected to the red Seatalk lead on the ST4000 autopilot. So I go to the ST4000 manual and it states "the ST4000 should not supply power to the Seatalk bus."

So I am going to pull the supply lead of and connected to the 12v supply on the ST4000.

Any issues with this?

You should never power any device from the seatalk buss. That is purely a communications network.
You should have a seperate supply to the Chartplotter or you might get away by splicing into the power supply to the ST4000.

Good Luck
