If you cannot follow the cable from the MFD to the antenna, (what I would do). If no antenna cable coming out the back of the MFD, it is possible the antenna is internal in the MFD. Check the MFD manual.

A lot of manufactures use something that resembles a mushroom

This can be in the cabin where it gets its signal through the deck, or outside on a pulpit or the bimini supports.

I had the same question with respect to the H41DS that we bought last October. I posed the same question and the replies basically amounted to "it depends on the person/company that installed the electronics".

After more searching, I finally found ours, which is relatively unobtrusive, on the aft starboard deck near the shore power connection. See the attached photo.

Also have a 2009 H41DS and the same 'mushroom' style antenna - although mine is located on the port quarter deck outside the power combing. I never really noticed it for about a year until a guest actually asked me what 'that thing' was :)

I believe that ours is a RayStar 125 GPS Receiver which has a SeaTalk1 (three wire) interface. It can be flush mounted (as ours is) or pole mounted using the mounting adapter.

Yeah - different antenna for sure and I would expect that would be easy to find. It could be (not recommended) installed under the deck somewhere too maybe? My boat (I am second owner) came with a slightly newer Garmin chart plotter installed down below by the nav station with a similar type of antenna installed on a bracket behind one of the DC panel areas facing upwards to the deck and the satellites. I would expect that the fiberglass is definitely not helpful on receiving a GPS signal but it works fine.

It depends on the installation We had a 45 DS as well. We did not have an external GPS antenna. It was in the plotter. We have a Raymarine e97. When we added AIS we had at add an external GPS antenna. We mounted that one on the support for the dingy Davit

A separate GPS mushroom antenna is used for my Marine FM radio.

My MFD has GPS as part of the unit.
