Gotta pick a GPS soon. Looking at the Garmin 546s. Although the boat has a Raymarine TriData, it is old and i would like a backup. Anyone have any experience with thru hull transducers? Already have 2 in-hull transducers and would rather not add yet one more hole. Any thought on GPSs or ducers would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to spend < $1000.
Thanks.

Jim, I got a 541S for christmas, to replace G478,, which I really liked however I need the depth feature, sonar. I installed a garmin transducer in an old 2" speed wheel hole with no trouble at all. The transducer went in a year ago and was not used, I installed the 541s, now on the hard and have yet to use it. Check the hole size of the transducer u need least and go to garmin.com and call the support team after u measure the diameter of the hole, its probably 2".....Red

Thanks Red, I'll check that this weekend. I do have an "extra" in hull as I don't really care to fix the paddlewheel for speed thru the water. If I might ask, how is the support structure for the transducers secured - adhesive, caulk? I'm asking because I assume I have to remove that structure to install the new structure for the new transducer.
Thanks.
Jim
