Got my UPS sail!

I finally got my new Doyle UPS with Farcnor furler flying yesterday. :dance:It took me several weeks to research all the gear I needed, how I would make it all work and I decided to teach myself how to splice a continuous furling line. I put it up yesterday in 3-5 kt winds and am very happy with it. The sail and furling handles very well single-handed, I can go up to about 30 degrees apparent, although it seems happier between 60 and 120. It really makes a difference.

Good for you. Now you can play with it and learn how to trim it for maximum performance. Don't forget there are four separate adjustments to be made for any given wind strength and point of sail. As you have already found this sail can be flown very close to the breeze but it is not nearly as efficient there as off the wind. In very light air it will produce a much better VMG by reaching off but it is nice to know that you can trim in to clear a headland without requiring two gybes.
