Hmm.
2 sets of trim winches
Heavy duty pole
Tuff luff system
Adjustable spin pole track

Looks like some had it set up in go-fast mode once.
And cruising amenities, also: pushpit (my 1981 model didn't have it) and a swim ladder.
Very nice, great boats, great learner boats as well as keepers. Do some Catalina 22 Google searches, there's more than one website/detailed internet resource, in addition to the fine skippers on this forum.

These are balsa core decks right? Assess the integrity before spending anything on her.

I will chime in as I have been in situations helping the Boy Scouts and others who received donated or free boats. First understand each state has their own laws as to abandonment so you will need to find out if registering in either NY or NJ. Then find out if the person who is donating does not have the documentation at all nor owns the boat, then follow the registered numbers as to whom it was registered to. Then advise and folks living in either state may be able to chime in better. Questions to ask of course is the boat registered to last known address and name. If deceased, look up to see if a will was probated in the area where the individual was and you probably will need a copy of the death certificate and copy of will for starters. You will have to do some digging here and get back with us

Nice freebie. There should be a HIN as the requirement cane into force on 1 Nov. 1972. CHeck the upper right hand corner of the transom for a start

Cheers

Looks like it has a backstay adjuster as well.
Pawel, where are you going to sail that boat?

In a word,"NO". Tell your friend if his friend can't find the paperwork, then his friend had best come haul his own garbage to the dump!
Not True

The friend can apply for a new title using the registration number... If the friend does not want to bother you can apply for an abandoned boat title. It is not hard and usually involves proof that you tried to locate the previous owner ( a news paper ad is often enough).

I know the process quite well, having had to do so several times with boats abandoned in boat yards. One must spend considerable time, effort and some money to do this or anybody who wanted to steal a boat would have a 'not hard' time re-registering it. Furthermore, the vessel could have liens against it that way exceed the value of the vessel, leaving one owning a very expensive boat.
In some states the process is easier than others, but one needs to check with their local DMV or marine vessel registering authority before taking possession of something like a boat that would be expensive and difficult to get rid of should one not be able to get a CLEAR title on it.

These are great one design and handicap boats for beer drinking races. Large one design fleets in Louisiana and Texas for the C22s. Good luck
