This season I replaced my 3 blade fixed prop with a Gori 3 blade folding prop on my Hunter 36. It has exceeded all expectations. The original prop was undersized for the boat. Our cruising range has increased significantly. Under sail we have picked up a Kt due to the folding prop. Prop walk has been elimimated, though sometimes that is not a good thing. Under power I just had to run up the Potomac in 20-25 Kts apparent on the nose against the current and swells. The boat maintained 6 KTs SOG powering thru the swells. Quite impressive. The prop blades pivot individually so they turn 180 degrees when going in reverse. The prop has an overdrive position for increased thrust by maintaining the blades in this reverse position while in foward gear. This also results in reduced fuel consumption. Just wanted to share my Gori experience.

You made it sound as though it were a feathering prop (by saying the blades turn 180* when going in reverse). Could you clarify as I am considering a 3-blade but don't want to give up the near-zero drag I have w/ a 2-blade folder.

When the boat is moving under sail the prop folds neatly away. When under power the blades have two different positions, foward and reverse. Each blade rotates around to present a different angle of attack depending on direction. It then offers an overdrive position which is basically going foward with the blades locked in the reverse position, This position gives you added thrust so you can reduce engine rpm and save fuel.

Clark -- you should check out Kiwi props too.... I installed one this year on my 410 and am very pleased with the results....http://www.kiwiprop.us/index.htm .... three blades - feathers completely aligned with teh slip stream for minimum drag... user adjustable too

Now I know why Broke Sailor is "broke". $2800 for a Gori prop. I can get 5 Campbells at this price and I will have some change!

Flex O Fold

I added a flex a fold to my Hunter 36 and very impressed with it's improvement with forward reverse and so much more when sailing.
I also found the stock prop pitch to be wrong for my boat, I think the price is more than the KIWI and less than the Gori.
