I am interested in comments from you Cherubini Hunter 33 owners and others regarding removing the track mounted gooseneck and mounting the gooseneck directly to the mast. I am finding the track mounted gooseneck to be more trouble than it is worth for sailing on San Francisco Bay. The gooseneck would be mounted at about the mid track location high enough to clear a future dogger. Regards, David SV Akula

Docked in the up position

I always moved the gooseneck to the locked "up" position when docked giving me more room under the boom.

I have a 1981 Hunter 25. I drilled out some extra holes in the goosenext tract (3/8 drill) Works Well I Now leave the goosenext in my favorite postion and I can Still move it to the original top hole for extra clearance for the boom when I need it. Bob S/V Wind Dee

I'd never part with the track

I bought a new headsail a few years back and it fits just a bit differently than the old one. I would not have a tight luff had I set the boom where it worked with the original sail. I move it up and down with a downhaul as well as a few extra self-drilled holes in the track. I see the flexibility as the primary asset plus distribution of stress over a longer section of the mast.

Thanks to you all for the comments.

I have found that the gooseneck on the track makes it more difficult to reef or shake-out the reef because the set-pin is not dependable at securing the gooseneck at one of the three track positions. I like Bob’s method of immobilizing the gooseneck on the track. I think I will do this first before further consideration of removing the track. I also like Tim’s comment on the advantage of load distribution that the track provides and the idea of adding additional holes in the track. S/V Akula
