In an earlier post I asked for info on where to locate a new gooseneck for an Ericson 29. I was given Rig-Rite who I have tried to contact with no response at all. I have located a couple of other possible sources. What I am looking for now is if anyone has or can provide a picture of the gooseneck assembly for this boat. I realized that I have an idea what it looks like but have not actually seen it. A picture would help a lot. If anyone can take and post a picture I would really appreciate it.

Gooseneck

If you could provide a picture of what you have on the boom end and the mast, we could most likely suggest a compatible fixture. It does not have to be identical to the original.

Rig-rite has had some problems.

Tim: Rig-rite has had some problems. They had a fire that destroyed some of their facility. I suggest that you contact them via phone and/or email to see if you can get a rise out of them. It may be from ashes they returned?

Boom Description

At the end of the boom is a rigid pin with a 1/2" diameter hole in it. The pin will spin so it always stays in line with the boom, the hole can be vertical or horizontal, it is on the same boom line always. This would appear to allow on the boom roller reefing. The pin will although not bend at all, it is rigid. I am looking at a gooseneck at Rig Rite, they finally got back to me. It is a traveller that will fit my track and a U bracket with a clevis pin mounted vertically. This will allow side to side motion for tacking but would allow limited up and down motion. How much of an issue is this? I am not looking for a stock Ericson gooseneck, no hope of that. Just looking for anything that will work in its place.

My E29 Gooseneck

Tim, I will take a photo of the gooseneck on my E29 this weekend. I have a 71 E29. The boom is a roller boom. This sound like yours. since I bought the boat used, I never knew if the roller boom came with the E29 or added on later by a PO. I do not use the roller feature. It is a hand crank and takes too long to roll the sail on the boom and to unroll it. You might also want to post the question on the ericson site: http://www.ericsonyachts.org/mainframe.htm Dave G.

E29 gooseneck

Here is a photo of my gooseneck. This is a 71 E29 and I'm not the original owner. I don't know if this is the original mast or boom. From the photo you can see how the gooseneck is attached. It doesn't show the cross-section shape. Is your boom similar to this? If so, maybe it was a standard option on the older E29's.

Ericson gooseneck

On my 68 E30, the gooseneck is similar to dave_g's. The hole at the top has a pair of ram's horns you slip into the first and second reef cringles. The foot passes between them and tacks as shown. Do not be tempted to try the roller furling. Several sailors were injured by winch handles in the face when gusts of wind hit partly furled sails.

I'll send a picture of the ram's horn soon as I get back to the boat. It will be a few days.
