We have just recently started seriously racing it. The local PHRF number we have been assigned is a 156 and to that they have added 9 sec/mile to account for using a roller furled jib. That is our Main/Jib number. To that we subtract 12 sec/mile if we declare as using a spinnaker (done before each race). So, 165 if no spin and 153 with a spin. Courses are most often W/L with about a one mile leg length.
When I bought the boat several years ago, the sails, bottom and a lot of the equipment (clutches/sheaves/blocks/etc) was worn out. I've since replaced all of the sails, worn out stuff, added spinnaker gear and took the bottom down to the gelcoat and did a proper bottom job on it. So, it's only this summer that the boat was race prepared. We have assembled a crew of good experienced guys and the few races at the end of our first half of the racing season we have raced, we have been in the hunt. But, the hot boat on the lake was not racing as he'd already wrapped up the "Spring Series". In addition, we've been seeing a lot of light air in the last month or so which is not usual for this time of year (light stuff doesn't usually start until August) and light air is not this boats sweet spot. Next week we'll start the fall series and the hot boat (S2 7.9, well sailed) will be back out. So, that will tell us how we are sailing it relative to the assigned PHRF number. If we run better than that number consistently, we'll likely get adjusted downward for next spring. But, some of the numbers I've seen for this boat are pretty optimistic I think. Mine is the Short keel version, 310 SD, and carries the Z Spars (US Spars) Z 401 7/8 Tapered mast.
