Everything from cars to merlot have good years and bad years of production. What are the C-22s good and bad years?

Not a matter of year

C22s are really all quite a lot alike, with just a few variations. They are not like wine (effected by weather) or cars (lots of changes). The real difference is how well the owner(s) of the boat took care of it. If you get a C22 in good condition you will have a quality boat regardless of year.

Good Years!!

I agree that a boat that has been Well taken care of is worth the price. It has also been brought to my attention that the older boats ..are faster than the newer ones. Sorry dont know why but all the people that I race with prefer Lower/smaller hull numbers. Catalina is a quality yacht. Alan

Good is relative for sure

In the "Main Brace", I think volume 30, there is an article on handicaping "the fleet". I think you may find it helpfull as it describes, in detail, the differences. In may opinion one must consider the use and chose to suit. There seems to be greater differences between style i.e. Fixed, fin, or swing keel than there are in the years. The year diff is mainly weight earlier equals lighter, and deck config, later equals new style Check it out

Try 1981 - 1985

My humble opinion - Those years represented the best design and improvements, in 1986 they made some changes to reduce cost, which sacrificed some of the "vintage" appearance. Regards, Ted

Say What?!

Gosh, I guess I didn't realize that those funky aluminum trim windows were vintage. ;-)

condition over year

Hello, I started looking for a C-22 in July. I looked at six boats, from 1981 to 1990. The one I bought was the 1981. It was also in the nicest condition. The 1990 was the worst! It had been sitting in a boat yard for over a year, and was clearly unloved. The 1981 that I bought spent the last 10 years with owners who loved her, and it showed. The boat was clean, the wood in good condition, the gelcoat shined, etc. Barry
