Last week was the annual Bayfield Race Week, Lake Superior's largest racing event with over 50 boats participating.

So this was my splendid office view for the week.

With our normal crew of 4 adults and 5 high school and college sailors, we set out to sail fast and have fun.

And fun we had, as well as sailing fast. A race on Monday race was abandoned by the RC due to an fast approaching storm, but we were leading and feeling good about the week.

We went on to win the next three races, and had the regatta locked up on Thursday. But we went out on Friday and sealed the deal in style with another bullet!

congrats jack thats a happy looking mob you have there
Thanks! Best part about kids as crew; they have infinite energy to win the evening on-shore events. They play (Opti wars in this case), and we drink the rum!

Superb set of priorities. :):):)
Indeed!

Funny we thought our booze/refreshment budget would go way down with all the <21 kids on board, but we found out that they all enjoy VERY expensive root beer.

A local multimedia company is creating videos of each days racing. Here is day 2; the first real day because day 1 was abandoned. Our fleet start is shown about 4:40. We won this race and lead wire to wire. Good times!

Short on-board vid of us in this race going upwind and down in 14 knots. Slamming into 3 foot chop. Good times.

Thanks for taking the time to post these Jackdaw. They are wayyy cool. I'm impressed with how good the helm balance looks. Going to weather I have way too much rudder angle to fight the weather helm and still need to learn how to adjust my sails, short of taking a bit of mast rake out. We finally drop the traveler down when we can't hold on any longer:D

Thanks. Going upwind we like to think that the driver only keeps the boat on the wind. The mainsheet trimmer really 'drives' the boat, keeping speed up and the the heel at the optimal angle. In breeze we ease the traveler down so just the aft end of them mainsail is in trim. The front will have a bubble caused by the genoa. Its a bit more work for me when we are in waves, but Pia (on main) gets much more a workout than I do. She never stops trimming.
