Good Old Boat

Got my Good Old Boat March/April yesterday. Read through it and found two things that came into question so I thought I would ask. There is a article in there about keeping lines organized in the wine cellar (what I call the area below the cockpit). The article shows an owner gluing what looks like Starboard onto the hull and hooks on the starboard. Not a bad idea.

Just curious what others have done on their 26+ O'Day? Another project I need to add.

My opinion is based on my experience in sailing on sometimes gusty Kansas Lakes, but I really always want to be able to quickly get to the lines so I can release them in a hurry if needed....In our 272 I can't imagine going below to get them or trying to reach them from the cockpit, ...and I can't quite imagine that your 26 is that much smaller...when I have thrown our mainsheet below to the galley area I can almost count on the mainsheet, genoa sheets, or some line with a knot in the end (to keep it from running free) getting pinched or hung up on something below....be it a decor item (?) or something so simple as a basket or handhold.... or a scotch bottle. Others may disagree.

The article is not talking about live lines stores out of sight. Not active sheets or halyards.

It's spare dock lines, spare line for raft ups, miscellaneous spare cordage that could be useful either at the dock or elsewhere.

I guess I misunderstood....I have one mesh bag from WM that snaps on the lifelines that holds 4 dock lines for visiting and
2 or 3 short bungee cords for use as sail ties in an emergency...

Yeah. I understood... I was just bein' funny. Truly, boats could do a better job of creating storage for lines.
I would use a wooden dowel suspended fore to aft in the starboard lazarette to hang lines with a rolling hitch. In fact, I think I will mount this immediately and clean up the pile of dock lines in my lazarette!
I normally keep 1 line hanging from the each, bow and stern pulpit.

hooks on back side of sliding drawer frame. it works well for me.

Yeah. That is nice. My lazarette is larger, and there is a starter battery in there, but you have a nice arrangement. Nice photos too!
