A big leap forward in the ambitious campaign to save the world's last unspoiled gray whale nursery at San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja, Mexico. The Mexican government has just announced that 109,000 acres of federal lands surrounding this spectacular whale habitat will be donated for conservation. This fantastic decision may well be the nail in the coffin of a decade-old Mitsubishi plan to build the world's largest industrial saltworks on the shores of the whale sanctuary.

Mean time....the mexican government...

has allowed foreing countries to rape their waters ..over fishing in baja and other areas... I have been going to baja for 30 years and you can really see the destruction of their natural resources and overpollution. I wonder if that area will be made into a theme park charging people to come and pet the whales...its happened in other natural areas. Sorry, for my comments but what your read in the newspapers and what really happens are two different things many times... Did you know that the 10th wealthiest person is building a hotel on Chichen Itza...a world heritage site? The government just looks the other way because of his wealth and power...he claims the entire area is his as a result of a 1500s spanish land grant. Can you imagine if someone decided to do the same thing in Yellowstone, or the Grand Canyon? Pray for the whales in baja, they are going to need it. abe
