In Mattituck NY News 12 reported 24.8 inches. In Greenport here a bit less, I think, but with drifting it really is hard to tell. I know I moved a lot of snow today and still don't have my cars out. Maybe tomorrow. I'm pretty sure we didn't have the winds predicted. Certainly not 70 mph. We probably had gusts into the 40's but sustained wind probably under 30. Still a good breeze. As a storm I'd give it a solid 6.

You call that a blizzard. In Minnesota, we would call that.... Tuesday.

I don't recall walking 25 miles uphill, both directions, through -76f and 14 feet of snow when we were all young as being quite that bad. The weather channel keeps showing pictures of a monumental storm, yet you can still see the curbs and the bases of the street signs.
Oh well. Here's to getting older, or just input overload.

Jackdaw, I recall that in the real west, you wouldn't even call out ONE plow till the snow was over the sign on the left.

Marketing. The same thing is done to the wind.

"Wind chill": a breeze with a press agent.

Don't forget the bread! can't make it one day without bread and milk since the blizzard of 78!;-)
seriously, we did have the predicted 26" of snow, and it's still snowing and blowing. had a 4 foot drift across the end of the driveway.

I'm still grumbling and jealous! We got missed ... and there are few things in life that I look forward to more than a good snowstorm! Call me nuts ... but, I just have to admit it.

OTOH, we do have enough snow to be covered in white, and there is a brilliant blue sky today. I'm not complaining about that!

I wouldn't want you to be disappointed so I'll leave a shovel next to the mail box and you can enjoy three feet of it on the way in. Use the back door, it was on the lee when the wind was blowing. :poke:

Funny listening to Al Joker Roker on the Today show yesterday morning ... he let it slip when he said "we didn't get as much snow as we hoped, err... anticipated".

So, is the global warming/climate change crowd still trying to advance the notion that weather extremes are caused by man-made global warming? Is weather hysteria useful to convince the weak-minded that Big Brother needs to protect us from our own behavior?

I'd guess not.

Weather is one of the only things left in this modern networked world that gets people to watch live broadcast television. The networks play that up EVERY chance they get.

right .... and that's why we have politicians front and center at every opportunity to declare state of emergency based on predictions (not actualized events), wasting millions of dollars to pay public servants and cronies for services that aren't required, and disrupting the lives and economy of the people who actually have to pay for this useless government waste.

Almost everybody in this state is at the point where we want to tell Governor Blowhard to shut up and sit down.

Scott,

That's because the political cost of being wrong is much higher than the value of being right.
