Wind direction is odd for a fall storm but 40-45 knots will and can make a mess of an anchorage with 1000+ boats in it..

I've been watching what they're calling Tropical Rainstorm Nicole all day, which is what you're getting. Lots of rain, wind and flooding. We're just beyond the leading edge to the west. Bizarre and making me very nervous, seeing that much rain so close, yet we've had mostly sun all day.

We're about to get winds this weekend and cool right off, from the north to 20 knots. Don't think I've ever seen so many strong wind and gale warnings before, almost every other day winds anywhere from 15 - 30 knots....

We have been watching the same system from the inside. Annapolis has gotten close to 8 inches of rain and there is more to come tonight before it moves north tomorrow pm. Wind not so bad tides a bit higher than nomal but we are on the quarter moon.

High tide on the Elk today occurred at +3' above normal @ 4PM, we experienced 40KN + winds. My dock and gazebo were under 6" of water. I rescued a number of boats my neighbors neglected to prepare properly. Low tide is suppose to be at 9:00PM. It looks like it never happened, still a good 1" above normal high tide. 3AM should be interesting, more rain and wind on the way. So far no damage except for my cell phone which I had inadvertently left in my pocket while on rescue missions.
-1 jet boat off the lift, ties down.
-1 jet ski off the lift, retrieve raised lift to top of travel and tied down
-1 Boston whaler almost under water, gas can, life jackets floating away.
-1 pontoon boat partially off the lift, tied down.
Seems like this caught most people off guard.

A friend in Annapolis tells me the water is already over the docks and still rising. Looks like it will be a long night for him.

Just a couple of minutes past high tide in St Michaels Maryland 10:30 EDT.

Water is over the piers by several inches but not as high ad the piling tops like it was during Isabelle. The saving grace is that there's not any wind so the boats are riding nicely and the fenders are easily handling any rubbing.

Still experiencing VERY heavy rain and flooding of roads and ditches but withoout the wind everything is going OK.

The night was not too bad. We were blowing off the dock so not a lot of rubbing and fender squeaking. We had a few gusts that woke me up with the boat heeled pretty good from the windage aloft.

Gusts were in the 20-30mph range up to midnight with a 35mph gust around 4am this morning. Fairlly calm at sunrise but gusts have been building all morning. Lastest gust was 26mph. The line of storms is almost here.

I am so glad that the temperature was 78 instead of 18 degrees. we would have 8 feet of snow.

The 3AM tide was not as high, but the second storm sure had a lot of rain, water in my garage, which did not happen with Isabelle.

We got rain before Isabelle and after Isabelle but only two inches with Isabelle 8 inches total in that entire week.
