Thanks for the thoughts Druid. Interesting you sail the D4/5 sails well, I have heard it is kind of lackluster when it comes to sailing.
I think the difference is I didn't use THEIR rigging - I had a 12ft aluminum mast, so I got a Laser Radial sail and cut a foot off the foot. Iirc I also moved the centerboard forward from where they had it. On my first sail in 10 knots +, a powerboat came over and asked if I had an engine in it! :) The extra foot of hull I put on might have helped too...

As for davits, I never used them. I just the use jib or spinnaker halyard to haul the boat up onto the foredeck.

Nice Druid sounds like you nailed it. Let me ask regarding your stretched version...the original D5, since that is 8' you can get the sides and bottom all within the length of an 8' plywood board. But when you did your 9', how did you add on that extra foot?

Just like you'd think: I scarfed on an extra foot. I use a lapped joint, epoxied and taped on one side. The Big Trick was adding a foot to all the x dimensions, then re-adjusting the angles so they still fit. Sorry, I don't think I have the revised dimensions.

I built Bolger's Rubens Nymph, 8' long and a foot wider than the regular Nymph. It is extremely stable, rows well, and can have a sailing rig (we don't). I fit it on the foredeck of our Gulf 29', where we carried it for a 250 mile trip from Port Huron, MI to the North Channel of Lake Huron. It was possible to get around it on the foredeck while docking or anchoring. Since then, we've always towed it without a problem.

AB High bow Dingy, maybe 10 feet, with a Yamaha 8 or 9.9. I have a 12 foot high bow with a 25, but I can't lift it up onto the deck of my hunter 34. Good luck!
