I'm looking for suggestions for a good book to teach me the basics of canvaswork and possibly sail repair.I know very little about sewing but want to learn. Thanks for any input.
The basics? There's a very good chapter on sewing in general, and canvas in particular, in Don Casey's "This Old Boat." I haven't learned much else beyond what I read there, and have done everything from sewing new cushion covers and camper top window sections to making halloween costumes and throw pillows.
The rest of the book is awfully good too.
The "Sail Maker's Apprentice" focuses on basic hand stitching, and has loads of info on different type of sailing rigs. Along with the instruction, I found the book to be an informative and enjoyable read.
