Early October this year I was sailing at night from Tel-Aviv to Haifa in order to participate in a Regata the next day. At that time of the the in the east Mediteranean sea weather is somehow unpredictable. I was expecting a lite North wind and 50cm waves from North, just the way it was for the last few days. Being these my expectations I have taken with me on board my 12 years old son and his friend, expecting a calm 7 hours sailing, planning of using engine as well since sailing course is 020.I have departed at 22:30, and around 03:00 I have encountered an Easterly wind (coming from the direction of the land), which was strong enough to raise 1.5m waves at only 1-2 nautical miles from the coast...My brand new ST60 wind machine has indicated 15 knots, and over less then one hour came to 30 knots of wind coming strate from board side. I have folded my genoa and left only symbolic main, and yet got a list of 20-30 degrees to starboard. At 04:15, my wind machine suddenly stoped indicating wind velocity, and instead showed-----------signs. I thought wind had overcame the designers wind estimations....Soon after done, and after safely, yet tired, docking in Haifa Marina, we discovered the STRONG wind has taken away the masthead part of the wind machine.... After climbing the mast we have discovered that perhaps poor mounting work done by one of the dealers employees coused it to be less secured to the mast then required, and due to that and the strong wind - to fall. Not a very pleasant experiance for one of the very first sailing trips in a brand new Hunter 410. By the way - the Regata was great!
