I am so happy. For the past four years my wife has not taken out our c22 by herself or with friends as she did not feel confident trying to start our 9.9 merc if becalmed. On many past occasion she has watched my mighty pulls on the starter rope and sweat on my brow. Our boat's auxillary is now a minn kota 55lb thrust electric trolling motor. Not only have we eliminated the need for a gas tank and heavy weight hanging off the back of the boat but now with the simply turn of a handle we can motor home when the wind dies. I was concerned if it would have enough power since we launch in the Columbia River and have to go upsteam against the current to enter our lake. We weren't exactly planing but we're achieving 3 to 4 knots even against a 2 to 3 knot current. The boat is better trimmed with less weight aft - the motor simply bolted to my existing motor bracket and I installed a batttery box in the fuel campartment to which I keep the motor and solar charger attached. It has exceeded all expectations! I will keep the gas merc for when we go to the coast as our tidal passes do require a bit more horse power - Now if only they would have a slightly more powerfull model for salt water!

Good Info!

Thanks for the report, B. Electrics are a fairly common discussion point for smaller boats like my C14.2, but yours is the first I've seen on a C22. Sounds good for getting in and oout of harbors into areas where wind and space are more compatable. Dick K., about to cruise for 9 days in the San Juans and Gulf Islands in our C22 "Sylvan", with a Honda 100.

Great Idea. I just aquired a C22 and am looking for an aux. My question is; About how many minutes of running time can you get out of a fully charged battery and what size of battery are you using? Thanks

More Questions

Great info. I sold my Honda 8hp (too heavy) and was thinking of a Nissan 3.5hp 2-stroke (28 lbs). Electric would be cool. Did you buy and extra battery for it? Which model motor? Do you feel good control when maneuvering in the slip area? Thanks.
