I have a boat to deliver to New Jersey. Probably this next week. After we get the boat delivered. My wife and I would like to go up the east coast and see the sights.

I want to see sailing related sights etc. Probably see old Iron Sides and the like. Want to go to the Wooden Boat.com location and see the boats and all the related stuff there and then on up the coast, probably Cape Cod and up into Vermont and Maine. I probably have my itinerary out of whack, but that is the gist of it.

Has the Hurricane made it very hard to get around up there? I would love to sail with some one out there if there is any one who would volunteer to take a relative novice out for an afternoon of sailing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can only speak of Vermont. There was a lot of damage done to Vermont. Mostly from Central Vermont to the south. If you are coming from Cape Cod. You would be taking I-93 to I89. There is no problem there. Most tourist attractions are fine, (Stowe, Waterbury, Burlington,...) All roads are now open and clean up is underway. If you get to the Burlington area. Feel free to send me an email, and I can give you some touring tips and maybe set up a day sailing. I believe my email in on my profile.

Travelling by land is not a major problem, at least from the hurricane. One suggestion for you to visit is the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. It's a living museum about sailing and very interesting. We sailed there last year and it was terrific.

Paul, Thank you. That is the name of the town that I was thinking about. Just couldn't remember it. For sure we will go there.

I built it in 2008.

She's a beauty Tom, a real looker! Nice job!

Up here in Maine, we're in great shape. We got a lot of wind and some rain but not all of Irene's wrath. You're free to visit any place. Portland is always a good bet, but there are lots of other towns that are more scenic. Search online to pick them but keep in mind that most of the coast is cut up by rivers, bays, isthmuses and islands. A 20 mile trip by boat can be 80 miles on land, on back roads.

She is a 21' Whitehall. I have had it in the garage since she was built. There really is no place close in Iowa where I can row it with out fear of grounding on rocks etc. Rivers are shallow and lakes are small. 20 pulls on the oars and you can get to the end of most lakes close by to row in.

I always had the vision of taking it to the Florida Coast and skimming along fishing for Bone fish or Tarpon. Now I have too many boats (4) have to get rid of this one so I can get my Skid Loader inside for the winter.

The boat was delivered to New Jersey successfully, we pulled it with a 2005 Dodge Neon, we made good time. Pulling at 55-70 mph all the time. The buyers were thrilled.

Once the hand off was done, we headed north and had an enjoyable though short vacation. We drove 3700 miles. We made it to Arcadia in Main and Cape Cod and Plymouth. Went on the Mayflower II, I couldn't imagine how 100+ people managed to make it across the Atlantic in such a small boat. Primarily a cargo vessel, not made at all for transporting passengers. No cabins, other than the Captain's and little amenities what so ever.

All in all a good trip...

Saw no evidence of Hurricane Irene.

Tom glad the trip went well. I'll bet the guy loved that boat. I made the mistake of showing it to Ruth and she wanted to know why I didn't make one just like it :). Not going to happen ;).

I made it to Arcadia once. The fog was so thick I could hardly see the side of the road and that was all I did see. Glad you had a better time. Hope you still get out with your boat before winter gets here,

Thanks Sum,

We had great weather all the trip except for a part of a day on the way out. Light to heavy intermittent rain. Arcadia was spectacular. We didn't spend too much time there, but what we did see was lovely.

I perhaps maybe could be talked into making another one just for your wife. I love making them. My big problem now is that I have about 5-6 other projects underway at the same time. We are putting on a 1400 sq ft. addition on our cabin. Guess it will be a house now. HaHa...

Cheers,...

I guess I'll have to make it back up to Arcadia to see what you saw :). I have a good friend in MO that was there about a month ago and he and his wife liked it a lot.

Put the boat for Ruth way at the back of your list ;), I think we have more boats now than our income is capable of handling .

Sounds like you stay plenty busy, good for you :),
