Hi all, just bought a 78 Hunter 30. Needs a little TLC. One of the things I am going to tackle first is the "soft" area around my mastfoot. The surveyor told me it was rotten wood on the inside. I am going to drill holes all-around use the stuff to dry out the wood and fill the area with epoxy resin with graphite powder and marine-tex the top and paint. Someone suggested cutting out the top glas layer and replace the wood with marine plywood, replace glas and marine tex and paint. I am sure some of you have been there and done that. I would appreciate all comments/advice.

Hi Simon, I have just fixed this exact problem! I took a router and cut out the top skin replaced the balsa core and marine plywood,I was schocked to see how far the water had wicked. I think the drilling method may not give you long term satifaction.I had to remove aprox 3sq. feet to hit dry wood. The job is not that tough and I know you will like the results. If you think about it drying out the core as you suggest will not eliminate the compression that must have taken place. Good Luck Bill
