Offshore sailing

Paul, Your H33.5 should perform well "offshore"; however, being 10 miles or 50 miles "offshore" makes no difference in the seas and winds that you may encounter, it will all depend on the weather conditions before and during your sail. My general view is that boats will generally take far more that most of us pleasure sailor are willing to put up with. So you can take this boat, or any similar boat, offshore and return safely if you have general seamanship experience, can handle the sails by yourself or with a crew and don't panic. A final word of wisdom when going offshore: reef when you first think about it. Go for it and let us know! Ed

In my experience its often safer farther out!

I always found (Pacific coast of CA) the biggest waves and things to bang into (rocks, other boats, SHIPS) are all near the coast. The swells usually round off as you get deeper (depending, of course on wind direction etc). Reef well but don't try sailing with the main down "in case" the rolling is horrible! Go for it - there is nothing like ocean sailing. Remember a gentleman only tacks (gibes?) once every day or so! Jim Willis
