Tom, Going North
Tom;I have made the trip from Astoria, Oregon to Seattle many times, and I have been south to Newport Oregon. My experience is spring is better for coming north, or fall. Summer usually has a wind from the northwest along the Oregon Washington coast which you will find to be right on your nose. Crab pots, and logs are the biggest hazzards. I usually like to stay out beyond the 40 fathom line (about 20 miles) to avoid the pots. Get the charts, and hope for a series of small disturbances to push you north, or make sure your engine is up to the task. I have had to motor north nearly every time. Fair winds.Mike
