Do you normally launch so late?

Unfortunately there has been no "normal" lately. Usually I am in sometime in early to mid June. I was in the first week of June last year. That isn't atypical in my area and in particular it was because May was an absolute washout with rain last year. This year it is because I had two bathrooms remodeled and it worked out that I saved about $10K by acting as my own general contractor and by tiling the walls and painting. That an a cold last weekend meant I could't work on the boat the last five weekends. Last year I was about the last guy out though, the end of the first week of November.

I did get my hand rails mounted correctly, by the way. I also took the time to flush the engine with dilute muriatic acid followed by water of course. I don't know what I am going to do with the acidic mess that came out though!

I see. I was curious because I will be moving SevenSundays to Michigan this year. Was wondering how early I can expect to launch her next year and not worry about a late freeze?

Muriatic acid. Doesn't sound easy to dispose of properly. I just drained my 18 gal diesel tank last weekend and don't know where to dispose of the old fuel.

Do you mean the cabintop handrails? Those are a bear. My friend removed them from his S2 7.3 to spray on varnish. We didn't realize EVERY damn stainless spacer was a slightly different height.

oh btw does any one remember what thread it was that some one wanted pics of the rudder support in the 9.2 i said i would post some pics but cant remember where i was supposed to post them lol i really hate getting to be a senior person

Woody, mine were all the same height, give or take a little variance in cutting. However be sure you note the orientation they were originally installed in as there is a slope on one end that has to face in a particular direction. Get it wrong and you can't easily fit your fingers in the space between the rail and the cabin. That was one of yesterday's repair jobs...remounting the improperly mounted rail...luckily I was able to just rotate the spacers after loosening all the bolts. There wasn't enough butyl tape under some of them so I am glad I did it. I made snaked of butyl tape and wrapped them around the bolts and then snugged it down. It worked so well that I did it on the other side too, which I hadn't mounted yet. First I put a little snake of tape around the bolt head, then I slipped the wooden core into the stainless tube and put a snake of butyl tape around the top of the core inside the tube. Then I put the bolt through the rail and then through the tube. Without the lower snake of butyl tape in place it was much easier to locate the bolt hole in the cabin top, which is a bit more challenging as you must add force to rebend the rail to fit again. I then went into the cabin and put the washer and nut on just at the bottom of the bolt to stop it from popping out and went onto the next one. After they were all done I pushed the bolts up from underneath (if necessary) to allow me room to add the bottom snakes of butyl tape then snugged it all down.

This might not work for others, as I had additional room to work after sanding my rails down and countersinking the bolts so the heads would be flush with the rails. (In fact, I recommend that you try to avoid sanding yours if at all possible, as I definitely created more work for myself in the long run than if I had used another method to remove my varnish) If you just use a teak cleaner on yours and then re-oil them or use a less damaging method than sanding you may not have the extra room to work as I did. I actually need to trim most of the bolts inside the cabin and then chase the threads to shorten them up.
