This year we are not taking our C22 to the coast, it will be spending the entire season in our lake. I am going to try using a minikota 50 lb thrust electric outboard as my auxillary for those times when the wind does not cooperate and we cannot sail onto or off of our mouring bouy. I have a solar charger amd good battery. My wife loves to sail and is only reluctant to take out her freinds because of the strength required to start our sometimes cranky 9.9 merc. Do any of you use an electric motor as an auxillary? how does it work out? Thanks, Bob

works great

On a lake with no currents an electric motor works great. no gas, no noise, no fumes. I carry a set of oars just in case.

Can you really paddle a 22?

I have never tried to row/paddle a 22'. Is it effective? What is the best method?

rowing 22'

I use 8' oars, longer would be better, with oar locks. Use a 1"x6" plank across the benches in the cockpit for a seat. Fix the tiller straight and row. I've never measured but I think I get about 2 kts or better. MC
