We are heading out of Sandusky OH on August 1. Plan to use better part of 2 months to get down to Cocoa Beach area. Anybody else plannning ICW travel in that time frame? Anyone else have tips on the following: Marinas that might have internet available? How is the insect (mosquito) situation when anchoring out on the ICW? Cell phone coverage on the eastern seaboard, is one carrier better than another? Any recommendations for Marinas in the Cocoa Beach area that would have good deals on boat storage for a 3-4 months (on the hard)? Any especially nice anchorages that we might want to check out?

Stop in Buffalo

If you get to stop in Buffalo let me know. I sail out of the Small Boat Harbor. Plan to make the same trip next year. Like to buy you a beer and talk about your plans. Chuck S/V Kililani h31

I'll be heading South the last of August

Starting out from Maine down the East coast to Virgina then down the ICW. I'm taking a month don't know where I'll end up but heading toward Florida too.

North Carolina Sites

If time & weather permit when you get to Beaufort/Morehead City, NC a trip out to Cape Lookout is worth the time. About 1 hour sail from Beaufort Inlet. Great anchorage.

ICW shallow spots

You will want to get up-to-date on the shallow spots on the ICW. The corp of engineers does not have the funds to dredge as needed, so the ICW has some difficult spots, one or two are near Wilmington, NC. I am hearing more and more recommendations from travelers to do ocean legs to avoid difficlt sections of the ICW.

Get "Skipper Bob" publications.......

.... They are relativly inexpensive, but, extremely informative. He has guides for Marinas, anchorages, and other topics. They are not high class, high gloss publications, but they are inexpensive, and full of Bobs personal experiences. Stop in Huron on the way and pick me up.... I'll sleep in the cockpit locker if I have to. Any chance you could keep the forum updated on you trip ? Good luck...... Jeff
