It seems I will be flying, unfortunately not sailing to SanDiego in September some time to assist my sister in renovations to her house and business. I am wondering what there is to do out west for a florida sailor. What marinas do I check out, where can I get a crew position, and what is there to do there? My visit is open ended. I would enjoy sailing, assisting in deliveries, and even south to panama, thru the canal, and back to florida in a few months. So, any suggestions? I hear the black pearl might be there? Naval base, etc.
thanks for any suggestions, Pat oh, I'm a registered nurse and a fair cook.

Americas Cup Experience, San Diego Zoo, USS Midway, Corvette Diner, Old Town, Sea World, and a ton of yacht/sailing clubs. If ya check in to some of the clubs on Shelter Island and tell 'em where you're from and what ya have in mind you might just get a sail. Good Luck.

There are some sailing clubs that are a good deal if

you have an ASA certification or are in a club that they will honor in a reciprocal deal. Either that or you can get a ride with a friend out here. I can tell you one thing, an overnight trip at one of the Channel Islands is an experience of a life time.

thanks

hey, thanks for the responses. A floating museum, zoo, clubs. I don't have any asa schooling just been a boat and sailboat owner for 30 years. Self taught, school of hard nocks, etc. I did belong to a sailboat club for a year. Could'nt make it to many meetings or events due to work schedule though. Not familiar with channel islands but sounds interesting and will google it. Thanks again. Pat

There is one way to experience the Channel

Islands but it is not a sailing adventure. Island Packers is a concession of the National Parks. They offer excursions on and around the Channel Islands. They operate out of both Oxnard and Ventura.

Channel Islands are magnificent. Also Catalina which is a litttle closer to SD. You can drive a couple of hours to Long Beach/San Pedro and catch the shuttle. We used to drop anchor there every year for a week. Stay away from Tijuana Mexico. Very dangerous for americanos at this time. Mucho drug wars.
