Last weekend was the GO SAIL weekend at Lake Authur just north of Pittsburgh, PA. The event brings willing boat owners to share their boat with anyone that wants to sail. The Charity asks $10.00 per person to ride on a sailboat. The money goes to people like United Cerebral Palsy. This was my first crew on Saturday. The people on the tiller have never sailed. Notice the heel and how calm they were. This is after about 20 minutes of this is how to sail type stuff. This crew was good! r.w.landau

You taught 'em a lot!

They are even cross sheeting to the windward winch! Good on ya, and I'm going to fly that idea by our executive committee. How did you publicize it, and how was the response?

easy bob...

I trimmed sails and took pictures. I think that was more than enough. The girls handled the tiller. By the way cross sheeting is something I do all the time ( no winch and great leverage on the jib sheet) and maybe THE DON OF SAIL TRIM will quiz on it. The Charity was set-up by United Cerebral Palsy and a local sailing shop. The Sailing Shop is Wind & Water ( should you want to search it's web site). I was just a willing boat owner. It was well worth the two day event. This is my forth year. r.w.landau

Awesome service!

What an awesome service. I would love to get involved in such a project...I could even try to get it started in our area if I knew alittle about the organization. Have any e-mail addresses? Now, I am new to sailing this year, have my own boat, have read everything I can get my hands on, but have never read about cross-sheeting. Don't want to take the wind out of the sails of this thread, so maybe just a redirect where I could read more about this. Thanks.
