There I was, sitting at the bar (a very irregular occurrence mind you) and this retire cop sits next to me. Says he's been retired for 7 years, married to a non-boater, and he's currently 64. He says he'd like to do the ditch.
"Why don't you just go?" says I.
Interpretation...the normal excuses, says he.
"Look, you buy a cheap piece of junk, small sailboat, 20' to 22'. Add a motor. Start in Cleveland. Stop in Grand River, Erie, Dunkirk, Buffalo, several places on the Erie, Waterford, West Point, another two places on the Hudson, NY or Newark, Cape May, down the...well, you get the picture. Two months of camping. If you hate it, find a poor guy fishing on some dock or shore and GIVE them the title and boat. Buy a cheap motorcycle. Drive home. Piece of cake, costs you maybe $4000 for the whole trip (this would be rich spending for me).
" I dunno"
"You're 64! When are you going to do it?"
I think Fred. He'd love to do it, but only if I went along because he knows his limitations (me too). So I tell him, Jim, "Look, there are dozens of snowbirds heading South during the fall. Find em on the net and make the arrangements and go with them. That way, if you hate it, you go without the expense, etc. You usually only have to pay your own way."
So...where on the net can I find a board of this sort. And, any other suggestions (like taking a babe TV Morning host along and filming it.)
