Glueing plastic to glass

I've gone and busted the fwd starboard portlight away from one of its hinges. Lewmar tell me it can't be fixed because they are chemically bonded to the hinges. They are organising a replacement for me.

However, I am keen to see if it can be fixed. Does anyone know of a glue that would bond the glass back to the hinge? Any of you pilots who had to climb out on a wing and glue an engine on to keep the plane in the air? Any submariners who had to glue up a hole in the hull?

I'm not bothered about paying for a replacement and will order it either way but I am more in favour of fixing this one and keeping the new one in case I don't fix it so good.

Go to your neerest glass shop and ask them .....mirror adhesive?

There is an adhesive for attaching rearview mirrors to the inside of windshields.

I'm a fan of JB Weld for gluing metals and plastics.
I believe your lens are acrylic, not glass, and I think you have size 1. If the hinges are adhered to the lens they would be "New Standard"

I recently replaced the lens on some in a different size, the new lens comes with new hinge parts for the frame that must be replaced because they use a different diameter of hinge pins.
Mine were size 1RE, Lewmar's website price was 95 pounds (whatever that is) and I got them here in California for $95 from CD.

Silkatack is one of the adhesives used in the auto industry to re-bed glass. The Silkatack is expensive at $22/tube and must be applied after heating to 170* for 1 hr.

Their other product for glass and plastic is Sikaflex 220+ which can be applied cold and is much less expensive and available through Amazon.

Thanks all. I'm sitting in Tunisia atm and stuff like this is not available. However, I'm off home to Oz in a week for the first time in nearly 2 years so I've got a good chance of getting my hands on one or more of these.
