Hello, My new to me 1986 Newport 28 needs some improvments in the head system. The toilet does not work properly and there are some leaks. I would like to change the toilet and all hoses to / from the holding tank. The problem is that it appears that the PO has glued every plumbing fitting he could find. There is either silicon sealer, RTV, epoxy or some other hard white goop on EVERY fitting. So I need to find a way of getting the head intake water hose off the seacock, and the hoses off the holding tank. Any suggestions? BTW the head appears to be a Jabsco. The pump is leaking but I can't change the gasket because of all the sealant on it. The toilet can pump directly overboard, or to the holding tank by way of a Y valve. The Y valve is leaking, and yup, I can't replace it because the hoses are glued on. I think the vent is clogged, and yes, it too is glued to the holding tank. Oh, what fun!!! Thanks, Barry 1986 Newport 28, Noble Prize Mt. Sinai, NY

Just do it

In my opinion --having replaced hoses,y-valves and heads--and since you want to replace ,not repair the system I suggest you cut away all fittings ,hose connections etc. with a cutto knife or hack saw.No need to save the parts ,just replace them. They will be easy to remove once all the connections are cut off and then you can go to work on the fittings themselves. Could be a smelly job if the system is not fully drained.Good luck

Peddler's right...

Cut the hoses off and pull everything out. To get the remaining pieces of hose off your thru-hulls, cut 'em lengthwise and peel 'em off...which could a challenge. If you can figure out what type of sealant he used, you should be able find out what type of solvent to use to help get 'em off and clean up the thru-hulls. Hopefully he didn't glue the threaded fittings into the tank too...'cuz if he did, you're not gonna be able salvage it. Otoh, if the tank is metal, you'd want to replace it with a plastic tank anyway. Btw...don't be too quick to blame the P.O. I know plenty of builders who use sealant on sanitation connections and do other things that can only leave you wondering what they could be thinking...IF they did think.
