I can not make the Annapolis Show in October and am very interested in the Globalstar sat phone system. Seems I can not get a local vendor to show me the phones operation as it relates to functioning as a modem for laptop use offshore. We want to do online banking from our laptop NOT SURF THE NET!!! I want to know how fast downloads appear on the screen and if the connectivity is good. You do not need to put a stop watch on it I am simply curious about whether someone found the response time acceptable or not. Globalstar offers various monthly plans and I am more interested in which plan would be best if downloads are very slowI know it will be slower than a land line but I already am using a sprint cell phone and the laptop to do online banking as we live on our boat now. This system is not great but is acceptable. I also know going offshore will make cell phone use impossible down island. Usually vendors at a show like Annapolis will have the whole dog and pony show set up for review. If someone could sort of repond to this after they have been there I would be very grateful.
